Move over Waverace…
Storyline
You take control of one of four characters, and race through
a season gaining points, challenging other riders, and finding
hidden goodies. At the end it will give you a nice ending
for your original character. It's your average racing storyline.
Graphics
Wow, that is the only way to describe the graphics for this
game. The water shimmers, the weather has an effect on gameplay,
the detail is just magnificent. Splashdown in a visually stunning
game. The crashes show the characters actually moving. Everything
is just smooth and clean. It is just pure eye candy.
Gameplay
This is another solid aspect of Splashdown, the water responds
to how sharp you turn, the waves will actually affect the
water craft, all the water physics you could want in a game
are all in Splashdown. The secrets you can find just by pulling
off the most random things like running over a tree or going
a little off course will just amaze you. A few examples are,
if you go to far off the course a giant squid will just pick
you up and throw you back onto the course, or run into the
Loch Ness monster and find a secret passage way that will
allow you to pull of some nasty tricks. While on the subject
of tricks they play a huge factor in Splashdown. The up the
performance of your sea-doo, which basically means that you
go faster. Tricks run from basic to the elaborate specials,
all are which are visually stunning. A few bigger waves would
have been nice, but eh, you can't have it all. The gameplay
is smooth and crisp, handles and responds well, this equals
the near perfect Sea-doo experience.
Sound
The soundtrack to this game really makes the race seem faster,
with the uptempo music. The character voices when they pass
another player, pull off a nice trick or wipe out, really
give the characters some difference from one another. This
is a change from the basic attribute change, by and by is
also still there. Overall the sound really gives this game
a boost.
Fun Factor
The game is solid in every aspect. Go solo for a season, and
it will take you a while to beat. The 20 courses are just
unbelievable, almost all of the courses are unique, and each
offers something different. Play this with a friend and the
challenges become greater, a hidden passage or a cut off can
make or break the race. The free ride mode lets you find hidden
goodies, and time attack also gives it a little boost.
Overall
Splashdown is a solid game, the second best racer out there,
next to GT3, and if you want something a little different
from that then get Splashdown. A solid season, an array of
other modes, many secrets, hidden paths, characters and courses
to unlock, make this a must get for racing fans. This game
will keep you busy for weeks, its has the lasting appeal.
The only thing missing is a trick attack mode, with that this
game would have been a 10, but even without it, it's still
top notch.
